I just saw this article on the BBC's website about a photograph. It was eventually used by an article called "The Big Empty," which shared photos of how empty things were during the pandemic and lockdowns. This particular picture was taken in February or 2020, very early on, but in Beijing, where people were staying … Continue reading Empty Reflections

Back In The US and Heading South
Crossing back into the US on the final leg of my journey. Still 2,000 miles to go, so plenty more to see and reflect on. #jkroams
Well, That Happened…
But if you've been following along, you'll likely note that most of my trip hasn't been a trip, but getting to places to start a trip. From Bisbee to Park City for the Veterans Charity Ride, From there out to Lexington to visit family, and the long run down from Michigan to Mexico. Most of my miles have been...
Road Trip Or Pre-Trip..? the story so far
Don't ask me, man... I just work here. There is little to update, as the last week has just been a long interstate burn. 500-mile days for three days straight, then hanging out on a cot recovering. I'm at the jump-off point of my 2024 road trip, even though I put about 2,500 miles on … Continue reading Road Trip Or Pre-Trip..? the story so far
Dead Calms and Doldrums
That certainly sounds like a recipe for the doldrums, and here I am. There are dishes to wash, counters to clean, and sometimes groceries to get or laundry to do. That is normally the side-work of living life, and is poor fodder for the central theme of anyone's life. Surely, being back on the road will be a salve for the doldrums. Hell, it's a solve for the doldrums in the early phases.
The Worlds Fastest Darkroom
I'm really excited to share this piece I recently got published on the Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys blog. Rob Gibson was an excellent interviewee, a craftsman, and is obviously onto something. Learn about his 19th century tintype photos and how he does them out in the real world by bringing his darkroom with him aboard … Continue reading The Worlds Fastest Darkroom
What I’ve Been Up To
I haven't been able to post in quite awhile, and now isn't a good time either. Still, it's best to get the bullet points out there. Sidecar racing will happen this year. The team exists as Strategic Protocol Motorsport, renamed and relaunched last year after I partnered up with promotion & film company Strategic Protocol. … Continue reading What I’ve Been Up To
Flat Track In Photos
The Santa Rosa Mile was impossible to forget. The high point was certainly the battle royale between Jared Mees and Bryan Smith for the champion, with Smith nearly losing it all in the final feet, but holding off Mees to secure his first GNC1 title. The low point was obviously the shocking death of both … Continue reading Flat Track In Photos
The Hundredth Percentile
We talk about pushing "one hundred percent" in racing a lot. I think it is often overlooked just how hard that is to do, and just how often we mistake ninety-nine percent for a hundred. I saw two men both give a hundred percent in detestable conditions, just a few weeks ago. It was the … Continue reading The Hundredth Percentile
