Lent and the Friday Fish Fry

Good day fellow humans an non-humans. Just a brief note about a post on my other page, Ride>Eat>Repeat. It’s from when I went to the Friday Fish Fry below the historic Saint Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church here in Bisbee, Arizona. It’s a shorter read than the deep-dives which make up the foundation of the RER website, with just a brief background and my own personal observations.

Small community events are dear to me, as I realize what makes a community is the interaction and interdependency. Our society sublets this out and we lose the feeling because of it. We don’t talk to the butcher, who talks to the meat man, who talks to the farmer. It’s all broken down into tiny steps, making us easily miss the web of human effort we all stand on.

It can be a block party, a barbecue by a local restaurant, a club function open to the general public, or a church social. It doesn’t matter: you cannot replace human interaction with a comments section or a social media platform. You’ve seen it yourself I’m sure. Those platforms divide. People post their opinion but do not stop to consider the counterpoint, because it isn’t coming from a person whose eyes you need to look into.

So you’re damn right: it’s about more than grabbing some fried fish at the local church. I received a plate of food yes, but left with a sense of calm. Read the story though, and damnit, sign up for the mailing list. At most it will go out once a week. I don’t sell you out to sponsors (what sponsors?!) and I don’t have any product to sell you. I’m just trying to share a conversation about being human, and remembering to love all of it.

Also, the social media feed is just pictures of good food, so I highly recommend following the Instagram and Facebook for Ride>Eat>Repeat. I just returned from about 10-days in California and I found me some mighty good tacos, sushi, and Chile Colorado. More on that later though.
